Welcome

Hello and welcome to my photographic collection. Photos taken on travels near and far.

Featured countries include Scotland, Cuba, Greenland, India, France, Iceland and Chile. I hope you find some of them to your taste.

04/10/23

Gallery adding showing images from my 2024 Wildlife Calendar. It cover a wide range of Scotland's wildlife from a Northern Brown Argus butterfly in Edinburgh to a fishing Osprey near Callander.
Possibly, my best calendar to date.

21/01/19

Added a selection of photos taken over the autumn/winter period including otter, waxwing and kingfisher portraits.

15/12/17

Some kingfisher portraits added from several recent lengthy and frigid stints at Bawsinch nature reserve late November/early December.

24/09/17

A few more shots from later summer trips/outings including my all time favourite kingfisher shot.
06/07/17

Summer 2017 gallery added with some shots from Edinburgh, Mull etc with more to be added.

15/01/17

Latest gallery is a mix of shots taken in the portobello area including cheeky starlings, striking kingfishers and colourful water fowl.

18/11/16

This gallery is a collection of photos from an unexpected but very welcome influx of waxwings to the village of Gullane near Edinburgh this month.
This is an unusual happening and an opportunity not to be missed! I spent about 12 hours over a week trying to capture photographs of these handsome birds in good light.

16/10/16

After almost a year of neglectfully ignoring my website, time to partially redeem myself with a new gallery, Summer 2016. A cross section of mostly local wildlife, butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies and the occasional bird.

25/10/15

New gallery featuring a few shots taken on a short trip to Glenfinnan including some of the "Hogwarts Express"….

17/08/15

New gallery added showing best shots from the recent East Fortune Airshow. Photographed from the summit of Traprain law.

02/06/15

Finally got around to adding a new gallery, imaginatively titled Spring 2015… featuring butterflies, bees, ducks and dolphins...

25/01/15

Added some photographs taken over the winter in Iceland (including shots of the northern lights), Mull and the Cairngorms.

20/09/14

Belatedly added some more butterfly shots to the macro gallery. Quite a memorable visit on a beautiful late August day to Saltoun wood….with hundreds of butterflies on the wing.

08/08/14

No new galleries for months then 3 come along in quick succession, just like Edinburgh buses (don't mention the trams). Some shots uploaded from the recent East Fortune Airshow which was a cracking day with the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain flight.
PS also added a few butterfly shots to the previous album.

31/07/14

Latest gallery added, loaded with macro shots, my latest obsession! Will add more to this over the coming week.

21/07/14

New gallery added following a trip to Assynt (Sutherland), some coastal, landscape and macro shots. Beautiful area of Scotland strongly recommend going there to photographers and anyone who lives colourful, wild scenery and the chance to view some rare wildlife.

07/05/14

A new gallery added after a bank holiday weekend spent on Islay. The amazing weather made up in a small way for missing the Iceland trip in February due to illness. Lets hope the trips planned for the next few months come off.

27/01/14

After a relatively quiet period for my photography things I should spring into action over the next few months, resulting in new material being posted here…hopefully. Iceland is first for killer whales/northern lights in a month or so then Islay in April before the annual trip to Mull in May then finally Sutherland in June. Meantime, best get out there and do something locally!

10/11/13

Autumn highlights - seasonal shots (mostly) of leaping salmon, migrating geese and hardy but colourful dragonflies.
Let me know if you enjoy them please.

29/08/13

New gallery added with landscape and macro shots taken on a brief visit to Mull. Macro shots taken with my relatively new sigma 150mm macro lens.

05/08/13

A selection from trips to Spey Bay, my back garden and the East Fortune Airshow 2013!

11/07/13

Added some new shots taken on the recent trip to to Curemonte in France. Several macro shots amongst them.

06/06/13
Newest addition is a gallery showing landscape, wildlife and detail shots taken on a recent trip to Mull. More to add to it over the next week or so...next stop is the Dordogne!

11/04/13
New gallery launched (Islay Spring 2013) after a productive long Easter weekend on Islay. Well worth a visit if you have never been there. A top location for wildlife and landscape photography as well as having circa 8 whisky distilleries!

11/03/13
New mini gallery featuring a few shots from early 2013. I am afraid moving house has proved to be an ongoing thief of photography time...but trips to Islay, Mull and France are coming up between Easter and the end of June. Should be a more productive period....

26/11/12
New gallery "Autumn Shots" added today. Hope you like some of them, feedback welcomed!

06/09/12
Added some landscape and macro shots from August. The spider shot is not for the arachnophobics out there!

31/07/2012
Latest gallery features a number of shots from the East Fortune Airshow last Saturday. Wet and windy day but rain cleared just long enough for a mind blowingly good display from the Red Arrows! Simply superb.

10/07/2012
On a bit of a run with another new Gallery added.
A selection of shots taken on a recent photographic workshop in the Dordogne run by Tim Mannakee. Great weekend in a special landscape dotted with picturesque villages which all seemed to be dominated by imposing chateaus.

29/06/2012
New gallery loaded today (finally) - Visit! Scotland! - which is a compilation of shots taken this spring across Scotland. Content ranges from white tailed eagles over Mull to unusually cooperative snipe posing on Islay. Hopefully, they paint an attractive picture of my homeland....

29/04/2012
New gallery added, "Unsprung".
A mix of shots taken in the highlands and nearer home this month.
Trips coming up..Dordogne in May, Islay in June and Mull also in June. Fingers crossed for good light and cooperative wildlife...

08/04/2012
Recently attended a preview of the new John Gray Centre in Haddington (in Lodge st just off the high street).
It houses a local museum focusing on East Lothian Life and History. I was one of their photography competition winners and my photograph "St Baldred's Chapel and the Congregation" taken of the gannet colony on the Bass rock, hangs with some other representative East Lothian shots in the 1st floor gallery. The museum is open 7 days.

19/02/2012
Added shots to the India 2012 gallery including one of a giant squirrel...with more to come over the next few days.
